The overriding objective of the Smart Water Fund is to effectively invest and manage the funds contributed by its shareholders for the benefit of the Victorian water industry and its customers.

In developing the Strategic Plan, consideration has been given to improving the value delivered to the Victorian water industry by building on the strong foundations and successes of the past.

New Business Model

Under the new business model the Smart Water Fund evolves from the role of 'funding administrator', to encompass the role of 'investment portfolio manager'.

Under the new Strategic Plan the Fund's investments will focus on business and customer returns, with a greater commercial focus in the assessment and selection of investments.

The new business model extends the role of Smart Water Fund further along the value chain to include knowledge transfer/utilisation and the creation of a water industry 'Knowledge Hub', as shown in the diagram below.
