Round 7 application period now closed
The application period for Smart Water Fund Round 7 is now closed and applications received by the closing date of 20 November 2009 are now being assessed. As a general guide the assessment period takes approximately 3-4 months to complete and successful applicants will be notified in mid to late March 2010.

Previous funding Rounds
The Smart Water Fund has administered six rounds of funding for projects that address water conservation, water recycling and biosolids management in innovative new ways.
The Smart Water Fund has invested approximately $28 million in close 170 projects since 2002.
Rounds 1 and 2 were available only to applicants from metropolitan Melbourne, with a total of $4 million in funding available in each Round.
From Round 3 onward the Fund was modified to include two separate funding streams and expanded to include urban regional Victoria thanks to a contribution from the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment. The total amount of funding for these rounds was $5 million.
The two funding streams were:
- Stream 1 – Targeted Research & Development
- Stream 2 – Open innovation (metro and regional urban Victoria)
Stream 1 funding was offered to research institutions such as Universities, Cooperative Research Centres and other research consultants to pursue areas of research deemed to be of critical importance to the water industry.
Stream 2 funding was open to any individual, group or organisation with an innovative project in the area of water conservation, water recycling or biosolids management.
